Rockport spent the past year and a half in a temporary office on Reebok’s 60-acre Canton campus, but in mid-December, Rockport moved its 215 employees into 1220 Washington St. in West Newton. The 70,000-square-foot office was formerly home to innovation design consulting firm, Continuum.
Designed by the Baker Design Group, the two-story space is configured in an open layout featuring comfortable chairs, funky light fixtures, pops of burnt orange color and lots of natural light. Just past the entrance foyer, low-riding brown-leather chairs, plaid ottomans and a long, sink-down-into-it grey leather couch surround a 10-foot fireplace.
The living room setup overlooks what will become an outdoor patio with grills and a water feature. Most notably, a shoe manifesto hangs from an exposed-brick wall: “We are shoemakers. Makers, making shoes for movers. It’s what we do and who we are.”
The move follows in the footsteps of other footwear makers across Greater Boston — Reebok moving its headquarters from Canton to Boston’s Seaport, Wolverine Worldwide opening a 245,000-square-foot regional headquarters in Waltham, and Clarks Americas moving its corporate headquarters to the former Polaroid campus, also in Waltham.
