The controversial Wynn Boston harbor casino-resort in Everett has officially broken ground as of last Thursday afternoon.
The 24-story 3,000,000 square-foot lightning rd has faced stiff opposition, including from Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. The main concerns are the traffic the casino will spawn as well as the fact that it will be located in such a dense urban area.
It was Somerville’s decision not to ask the state to reconsider a key construction permit for the project that led to this week’s construction commencement – a previous appeal from the town delayed the groundbreaking in April but things seem to be back on.
The casino is slated to open by late 2018. Keep an eye out though, Somerville may not be done with its challenged yet.
